Deaf Awareness week was supported by Catering L2 student Lacey Saamanthy.
Lacey took part in the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) Deaf Awareness event 'The big cake bake'. She made all of the cakes herself and had a stall in Reds, selling them to students and staff. She raised £26.35, which will go towards giving a family who have just found out that their baby is deaf, 20 minutes of free confidential support through the NDCS helpline.
Lacey also promoted the college British Sign Language (BSL) enrichment classes taking place on Thursdays 4.30-5.30 in the Brook Centre. She sometimes helps out with these when she is not busy in the kitchen.
Well done Lacey!
